چکیده

In this paper, we propose a novel reception/transmission scheme for half-duplex base stations (BSs). In particular, we propose a half-duplex BS that employes in-band uplink-receptions from user 1 and downlink-transmissions to user 2, which occur in different time slots. Furthermore, we propose optimal adaptive scheduling of the in-band uplink-receptions and downlink-transmissions of the BS such that the uplink-downlink rate/throughput region is maximized and the outage probabilities of the uplink and downlink channels are minimized. Practically, this results in selecting whether in a given time slot the BS should receive from user 1 or transmit to user 2 based on the qualities of the in-band uplink-reception and downlink-transmission channels. Compared to the performance achieved with a conventional fullduplex division (FDD) base station, two main gains can be highlighted: 1) Increased uplink-downlink rate/throughput region; 2) Doubling of the diversity gain of both the uplink and downlink channels.

Joint User Scheduling and Power optimization in Full-Duplex Cells with Successive Interference Cancellation

This paper considers a cellular system with a fullduplex base station and half-duplex users. The base station can activate one user in uplink or downlink (half-duplex mode), or two different users one in each direction simultaneously (full-duplex mode). Simultaneous transmissions in uplink and downlink causes self-interference at the base station and uplinkto-downlink interference at the downli...

The IEEE 802.16 Standard for Broadband Wireless Access

The IEEE 802.16 standard for broadband wireless access was recently approved . It defines a physical layer for systems operating at frequency bands between 10 and 66 GHz, a medium access control (MAC) protocol and the convergence layers for carrying protocols such as IP, ATM and Ethernet. An IEEE 802.16 system consists of a base station and one or more subscriber stations. The duplexing scheme ...

Can Uplink Transmissions Survive in Full-duplex Cellular Environments?

In-band full-duplex (FD) communication is considered a potential candidate to be adopted by the fifth generation (5G) cellular networks. FD communication renders the entire spectrum simultaneously accessible by uplink and downlink, and hence, is optimistically promoted to double the transmission rate. While this is true for a single communication link, cross-mode interference (i.e., interferenc...

On Cell Association in Multi-Tier Full-Duplex Cellular Networks

This paper addresses the cell association problem in multi-tier in-band full-duplex (FD) networks. Specifically, we consider the case of decoupled cell association (DCA) in which users are not necessarily served by the same base station (BS) for uplink and downlink transmissions. Instead, users can simultaneously associate to different BSs based on two independent weighted path-loss cell associ...

On Joint Sub-channel Allocation, Duplexing Mode Selection, and Power Control in Full-Duplex Co-Channel Femtocell Networks

As one of the promising approaches to increase the network capacity, Full-duplex (FD) communications have recently gained a remarkable attention. FD communication enables wireless nodes to simultaneously send and receive data through the same frequency band. Thanks to the recent achievements in the self-interference (SI) cancellation, this type of communication is expected to be potentially uti...
